I wrote this poem in 3rd grade for a book of poetry my classmates and I created. Though I think after reading cute poems about cats and dogs, my teacher was flummoxed by the dark tone of my submission. I don't think she liked it much. Looking back, I can't help but wonder where this poem came from.

the leaves are falling down

I have seen the forest green,

But now the forest is brown.

Oh forest green, oh forest brown;

The leaves are falling down.

I went there in summer sun;

I went there in winter cold;

But now the forest is getting old.

The leaves are falling down.
